History

It started with The Pro Shop

MoreCorp is one of South Africa’s iconic stories of entrepreneurship. Over 40 years ago, we had our beginnings as South Africa’s first large-format, off-course speciality golf store in Commissioner Street, downtown Johannesburg.

Today, we have grown to become a diverse ecosystem of companies, services, products, and people that all work together to make sport more accessible and enjoyable. Since its beginnings in 1976, The Pro Shop has grown into Africa’s premier golf retail chain, with a reach that extends across 15 locations, a retail property portfolio of over 140 000 sq. ft. and a market share of over 50%.

It’s grown outside and online

Our customers can enjoy more than our world-class stores. We have also grown to offer access to themed golf parks, and lessons suited to players of all levels. Our golf offerings have evolved alongside the latest developments in technology. With our various booking engines such as GolfTimeSA, playmoregolf with Momentum and Lastminutegolf, it is possible to book a golf game in a few simple clicks.

Our passion now includes cycling

In 2013, we extended our business into cycling and acquired Cycle Lab, South Africa’s largest cycling retail chain. Through this, we are able to offer cyclists the same wide-ranging products and services we provide our golfing community. Cyclists can shop at large-scale, speciality format stores or smaller convenience stores in small towns. They can also train through our SuperCycling Club, PwC Bike Park, events and FitTrack Training programs. Our Cycle Lab stores continue to grow, with three extra superstores planned for launch in the near future.

As we honed our skills in providing digital products in response to our market, we launched MoreDigital in 2016. This arm of the business focuses on providing access to products, services and playing opportunities through a number of cutting-edge online platforms.

We continue to reach for more

We have recently acquired a number of strategic investments through our launch of MoreInvest. These investments grow the reach of our business and our potential to serve our customers. Like every golfer or cyclist that shops, learns and practices with us, we keep growing and keep improving. As we grow, we remain motivated by the same desire that started The Pro Shop 40 years ago: to introduce more South Africans to sport, and allow them to make friends and grow in confidence while doing so.
